Its very cool, and got me thinking.. if I used a ultrasonic atomizer type thing, I could easily show fog in a glass dome.. and perhaps if I made enough fog it would condense on the top of the jar to create rain.

Any thoughts on whether this would actually work?

Orange on White may be an issue, but because the admin clearly does know how web design works it's not orange on green, it's orange on grey.  As light as that grey is it makes a whole lotta difference.

Who knows what is somewhat up for debate. One of natures waning signs is you don't see these types of color choises on the serious professional web sites like Amazon, Ebay, Google, and such.

That doesn't make it wrong, merely different.

To solve it further could there be a time based limit on how much bad karma one user can give another user?

There is some sort of time-out for karma. But i'm not sure exactly what is timed-out or for how long?

One user can give a max of +/- 10 karma to any particular user in 24 hours?

Is it me, or do people insist on using the arduino CPU (328p) in things that should use something far more simple, like an ATTiny.  I love the arduino.. But seriously you want to make a colour changing cube, cool, not a job for this micro controller.

You're best bet to help, rather than shout into the abyss is to do something AWESOME. 

What about some web based service connected to arduinos as an art project? So Internet users can affect a real world device, and the amount of influence they have is inversely proportional to the number of people using it?

With ref. to abuse: a person who posts a lot is more likely to be targeted by one guy for a joke, because they make them selves easy to spot.  BUT if you post lots of good stuff then it is hugely outweighed by the bad that one person can cause (eg 100 people randomly giving you karma outweighs 1 guy maliciously giving bad)

Crackers has taken on a pretty low meaning nowadays, and because of the craziness with identity theft early last decade I don't think this will ever change.  On the upside, to those who know what it means you get kudos; to those who don't, they don't care much anyway.

I'm not bothered about my arduino forum account being hacked too much (I bet nkcelectronics is slightly concerned though)

It does seem odd that passwords can be move from one database to another, perhaps an admin could verify what happened? Best practices are possibly not "oh, we just store passwords as plain text in a myPHP server"

I know there are in the UK, not sure about the US.. But aren't there funky laws around mercury because of it's general toxicity and death causing attributes?

Why couldn't they have been silly? Things have very sudenly become a bit, grown up for Arduino.. It's becomes serious :'(

Hi all, shiney new layout here...

I am curious though... How did you move all the user accounts with passwords, shouldn't all that be encrypted and super secreted.. I know it is only a forum and I'm not sure how the encryption on the passwords works, but I didn't think things like this were possible as a result

On the ATMega 1280 you can add external RAM, might be worth considering if you **have** to build a project that uses so much RAM

Try the software serial library, if you connect a device to ex or tx then it is linked with the serial connection to the computer as well as the arduino, this could be an issue during programming.

Bad idea to use pins 0 or 1 for anything as they are serial coms to the board... Intererence on those just after a reset or when programming could / will cause erratic behaviour.
