All is fine now, probably an operational hickup. Move along folks Major emergency has been recovered today, situation is still not perfect but mostly tollerable. A mixture of overloaded databases, failing replications and badly configured caches has exploded with results you observed. Probably later today some other minor issues may happen due final tuning, please be patient and provide alerts about other issues you may find in your daily usage.

It was very strange. I could not access it from home, but if I took my laptop and went a couple of kilometers to a friend of mine I had no problems.
Problem should be solved. Just a badly assigned IP not routed by some (but not every) ISP. It may happen again, please notify me (writing to webmaster@arduino.cc , I do not regularly read the forum) in that case. Thanks grendle to help me collecting important informations usefull to identify and solve the issue.

its been down for me for the last few days.
Playground has been moved some days ago to a new (and actually dedicated) small server, to experiment with new hosting solutions for our growing community. I've already collected some complain about unability to reach the website, but given that incoming traffic is still high (almost the same as before) I can assume the issue afflict only a part of the users. The problem is understand which part, and why. If someone has some competence in networking, is experiencing difficulties to access playground.arduino.cc and want to help and act as case study to debug the situation, please get in touch by mail at webmaster@arduino.cc

The problem seems to be more extended than previously expected: an hardware issue on our server produces random spikes and kernel panic which force brutal shutdowns of the system, causing - other than temporary unavailability of our web services - damages on database tables abruptly closed. We are schedulating a massive migration for tomorrow, that will resolve in a long downtime. More news soon on the Arduino blog.

We had massive outage on the main server tonight, the whole machine rebooted at least two times for still unclear reasons. Now it seems back to normal operational status, please report eventual other issues you find to webmaster@arduino.cc .

It just redirects to a google search, which is fine, but it's redirecting to 'site:http://arduino.cc/playground' rather than 'site:http://playground.arduino.cc' meaning that you get no search results
Corrected. Thanks for report.

I'll hold on for a while.
New instances of mailing lists are online here -> http://groups.arduino.cc/Feel free to register (again, or for the first time) to those of your interest. Someone should already be moved (but not all notification mails have been sent), someone is still in the process, a temptative of manual subscription is worth a try just to be sure to be correctly subscribed.

I have been subscribed to the developers mailing list but I didn't receive mails lately. I mean it is so quit I became suspicious. So I wanted to resubscribe but when I clicked the developers mailing list link on the home page I get a "server not found" error page. Which I find weird as it is a arduino.cc url.
Mailing lists, as all other Arduino mail-related services, are slowly migrating on Google Apps service. Too slowly. All previous subscribers are receiving notifications about their new subscription, in small groups due Google's strict anti-spam policies, I hope everyone will be moved by the end of the week and the new lists should be available for the public as soon as possible. Please forgive the problem, the operation raised too many issues not previously considered.

I'm told it's a side-effect of the cache service. Hopefully it will go away very soon.
I confirm it is, as many other issues observed in latest days, a problem with a un-perfect cache server setup. Tonight I temporary disabled it to be able to check configuration and behaviour of local cache on our complex authentication workflow, today also I will work on that.
