digikey and many others still cary new model z80's (like 5 bucks for a 8mhz)

I want to say jameco has a cpu (and probably others) that pulls up when you search for 6502 and has 8080's in stock

so yea they are still out there
3453  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: mm verses inches on: August 23, 2010, 01:39:27 pm
i dunno I got Google calc to spit it up when the 2.54 mm came into play, and of course now I cant get it to do it

all I know is base 12 and fractions is a serious pain in the butt
3454  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: mm verses inches on: August 23, 2010, 12:57:46 pm
heh see its mind boggling

0.1 = 1/10 of an inch which is 1/64th of an inch

who the * thought this crap up

(and yea its still 2.54mm)
3455  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: mm verses inches on: August 23, 2010, 12:07:39 pm
what is .1 inch, imperial doesn't use decimal guess you mean 1/64th, course being in the age where every single thing is displayed on a digital screen what are you going to do

it really is complicated, meanwhile metric continues to be 2.54mm, maybe that is why most of the world accepts it for daily use, and science demands it

not to derail the thread but there was a recent story on slashdot

apparently they have been screwing it up so bad students are failing to grasp the actual meaning of the = sign

http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/08/13/1315237/US-Students-Struggle-With-Understanding-of-the-Equal-Sign

and () no longer means do this first, it apparently means X

of course I have seen what it takes to be a teacher in the US, and the future does not look bright (one of my friends is a teacher, after most of a 4 year degree, which was with only about 60% being there, and the most of that time they were under the influence)

if he can fudge being a teacher for 5 years he gets a 5 year contract, which rolls him into a 10 year contract

to me I prefer the metric system, its a royal pain in the ass to remember 10 an 18/32

but I know I am a minority

defiantly astable

I would be fine and forget it, but then I would "go high" in pain by mashing it or something

I had a similar mark to that thanks to a diode I was not paying attention to

it went away after a couple weeks, though the time I was pushing a 556 timer into some card stock and it seated in my finger hurt much worse

Simple, I will be one of them

why?

cause I will guarantee you that they will end up in a bin and never be used more than a passing proof of concept fad idea

now where do I email you my address

 ;D

(I have a pic32 with a real time compiled multi-threaded basic interpreter on it that only requires a ansi terminal to develop for it, and it mostly sits in the bin heh)
3462  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: Jameco and Arduino on: September 10, 2010, 08:47:17 am
well jameco by nature is a small ma-pa shop, they started in the early computer boom selling expansion boards

so if they are now so big that they can hang up on customers and openly screw you over on shipping, WTF are they going to bother with arduino?

goes back to my "thats a little 2 faced" comment

deal with them if you want .. they are (slightly) overpriced, use 9$ a lb shipping, personally I find their new website a nightmare to navigate, and they have nothing all that special except for a very small selection of gears
3463  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: Jameco and Arduino on: September 10, 2010, 08:14:06 am
I asked for a representative, his job duties and issues with the company are none of my concern

and I did not call their 800 sales line, I looked up a number online

I love it when people start making excuses for those poor little companies, and how dare I even bother them with my simple little idea

At one point in time companies had to earn your business, now they expect it no matter what just because they exist
3464  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: Jameco and Arduino on: September 09, 2010, 05:53:09 pm
and yet when I called them asking them to add a USPS shipping option it was like talking to a brick wall (9.85$ shipping for 5 74 series IC's bah)

then when I told them I would not be buying from them anymore until they had a USPS option they hung up

now its all shugah and we listen!

I don't have a problem with Jameco, .. yet but with my experiences with them both personally and for company use it sounds a little like some 2 face BS

its a shame too, back in the day I used to buy pc and apple expansion cards from them quite a bit, but to be hung up on for daring to ask them to use a 5$ flat rate box was a bit pissy (i mean crap I get 3 of their catalogs every other month through the mail, I know they know how to use it)
3465  Forum 2005-2010 (read only) / Bar Sport / Re: Is This Worth It? on: September 06, 2010, 01:21:53 am
well you could use the colors to indicate the time of day also, or the season, or the day of the week (Monday = blue, Friday = red)  or include some alarm functions or a mix of all of the above

RGB leds are not really expensive, and if your dedicating a chip to this you will have plenty of resources, if its something you wish to do
