1  Using Arduino / General Electronics / Re: Peristaltic pumps MOSFETs and diodes for auto dosing system on: September 26, 2013, 09:28:36 pm
The ebay pumps are good, but as with anything mechanical from ebay, you will need to replace it often.
I would go with a 12v pump just because it's easier to find a power supply for it. For mosfets, get things that can handle 10a or so; that way you won't need to heatsink them.

As for the actual control, set a maximum pH and a minimum pH so it's not on 24/7. And be aware that the pH fluctuates over the course of the day, so before installing a dosing system have your Arduino log the pH at different times of day.

Ah, thank you! I will look into using that kind of technology.

Angle relative to the x, y, and z axis mainly. I also need to track the object in space, mainly the distance of the tip and base of the sword from the target. Sensors can be placed on the sword.
I was thinking mounting gyroscopes on the sword, but I still can't figure out distance. I looked a IR things, but they seem to be able to only find the distance of any object, not specifically the sword. Maybe radar would work, but I am doubtful of its accuracy.
4  Using Arduino / Sensors / Re: Problems reading Dallas D18B20 onewire temp sensor... on: September 23, 2013, 11:38:25 pm
I use the DS18B20 for aquarium sensing and I just used an existing library to make things simpler. Try a library example sketch first, or a proven vanilla sketch.

I need to find the distance and angle of an object like a sword being swung for a project of mine. I was wondering if there were ways to put a sensor on the end of the sword and the hilt to find the angle and distance of the sword. Size is not really an issue, but I would like to accomplish this for less than $100 in electronics for the sensor(s).
6  Using Arduino / Programming Questions / Re: Finding larger roots than 2 with arduino on: August 05, 2013, 04:50:05 pm
YES! Thank you so much!
7  Using Arduino / Programming Questions / Finding larger roots than 2 with arduino on: August 05, 2013, 04:40:25 pm
Is there a function to find roots with large degrees?
For instance, say I want to solve x^14400 = 255. I need to find the 14400th root of 255. How do I do this?

Oooh. File is little texty to safely comment stuff out.
9  Using Arduino / Installation & Troubleshooting / Re: Too many boards! on: June 01, 2013, 10:53:08 pm
Thanks! Didn't know I could do that.
10  Using Arduino / Installation & Troubleshooting / Too many boards! on: June 01, 2013, 09:55:44 pm
I have a bunch of standalone arduino chips that I want to program, but I have so many board in the "boards" menu that my laptop can't display them all! Is there any way to scroll down so I can select other boards?
11  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: WOMARTS library graphic test error on: April 06, 2013, 10:01:49 pm
Exactly. I got mine from the same seller.
However, keep in mind the SD card slot does not work without some wiring which I screwed up.
12  Using Arduino / Motors, Mechanics, and Power / How long will this last? on: April 06, 2013, 10:00:53 pm
I want to turn on and off an aquarium pump running on 120v AC from a relay controlled by Arduino. They only use about 6w maximum. However, I'm not sure how long an SSR will last me if I turn it on and off say, every 10 seconds 24/7. How long will it last me? What is a good relay to use.
13  Using Arduino / Displays / Displaying pics with UTFT and Utouch libraries on: April 02, 2013, 06:38:24 pm
I want to display some simple pictures with my Sainsmart TFT screen. Currently the only libraries that work with it are the Utouch and UTFT libraries.
I won't get an SD card reader for another week, so I'm stuck there.

How do I upload .raw files to the display? Is there some way to include it as a library?
14  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: LCD not working, both wirings. on: March 19, 2013, 09:44:06 pm
Never mind, it works! Found out how the backlight is supposed to be connected and fixed the contrast.

I attached a picture of the wiring I'm supposed to do.
