you do not use a programmer when using the ftdi - burn the bootloader with your usbasp, then unplug it and connect your ftdi. all you have to do is click upload (or the tick) with any example (blink is a good choice).

Yip, thats fine - as long as it's not over +0.5V higher.

Please give a link to the board you purchased - there are a lot of Chinese 'clones' that do not use the ftdi chip.

You need to upload the bootloader with your usbasp - then you can use the FTDI to upload sketches.
52  Using Arduino / Project Guidance / Re: Arduino nano3 and spi on: July 07, 2014, 12:29:11 pm
I've used a pro-mini with an Ethernet shield, and the nano is pretty much the same (just with an ftdi chip) so I don't see why it would not work.

Get out your calculator, and see what time difference you will have in your 'sound' pulses, how big is this room?
55  Using Arduino / Project Guidance / Re: NEED A HELP RELATED TO CODE on: July 04, 2014, 01:02:05 pm
Take your caps lock off, do you have any code so far? what 'motion' are you talking about, do you need someone to do this for you or are you looking for assistance only?

Please be specific, as general questions will get general answers (if any).

I'm pointing out that without your code - we can't help you with your code!

Ah - its line 23 of the code you are using.
