Okay I tried that but now if I pass the String "<T1>" which should initialize the true case will not run. It wont print out anything.
Any ideas?

Really all I need to do is read a string from the Serial Port, and test if the String equals various String constants. Also, if the String from the Serial port does not equal any of the constant Strings, it should be completely cleared.

Thanks!

No I tried doing that. Here is the code that I am using.

Code:
while (Serial.available() > 0) {
      char c = Serial.read();
      readString += c;
  }

  if (readString == "<T1>")
  {
    Serial.println("Hello");
  }
  else
  {
    readString == "";
  }

All I need to do is in the else statement, clear the String readString so that I can read the next input properly.

Hey Guys,

This is probably an easy question for most of you guys. What is the best way to clear a String value created by the String object?
All I am doing is filling up a String with values but then I need an easy way to clear it.

Thanks!

Any pointers to links will be great too!

Thanks.

Oh I am interested!!!

I have actually been planning on building an Open Source Thermostat over the winter break and actually stopped the whole plan because another project idea pulled up. I had some really good additions to the thermostat including wireless communication and programming.

We should maybe worked together and figure something out...?

Yea it works sometimes... The error usually occured whenever I synced the same card twice without changing any values of the .txt file. I want it to be very stable with no errors. Do you think I should take the chance? This is for a consumer level thermostat and if random values are set as the setpoint... it might put the whole A/C unit under a huge risk. What do you think? Is it safe and stable?

I tried adding the close root and close file functions just like you said and sometimes when I opened the SD Card it would give me random values. When is the next release coming out?

Yea it seems that is exactly my problem as well. So basically you found a software fix for it? When are you going to be releasing the library?
