exactly, many forum softwares will only autoquote what is outside quote boxes too.

I feel really stupid for asking this, but, does this forum actually have a quote button on posts?  I cant seem to find it.

It really does seem that the forums are a complete non priority to the arduino team, which a real shame given they could act as a hub for the currently scattered arduino community.

What you want is generally accomplished by what is called a "Kalman filter" (which isn't actually a filter at all, damn mathematicians always trying to confuse people...).  If you like maths as much as I do, you will now look this up and proceed to cry  ;D  :-[ .

I have just been testing a 64kB SRAM module for my arduino mega I built based on the atmega 1280's external memory interface.  However I seem to have hit some kind of software limitation in the arduino compiler.

This works fine:

However this:

unsigned char a [60000];

gives me "error: overflow in array dimension"

Does anyone know what causes this?  Or what the exact size limit may be?

well, it depends, can your design give up a precious timer to reduce program complexity?

read the atmega datasheet, it has counters with compare interrupts.

A for what the datsheet says, it also says

Atmel makes no representations or warranties with respect to the accuracy or completeness of the contents of this document

And even if atmel knew of a way to bypass their security, do you think they would go broadcasting it in their datasheets?

edit: ah ha, found it http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~sps32/mcu_lock.html It appears certain clock and power glitches can cause a protected chip to become unprotected.

then the producer can set the AVRs fuses accordingly. This will make reading it with an ISP impossible.

not impossible, just difficult

if it works on usb, but not external power, it is the regulator blown.

if you still need it to work on external power you could just build a small regulator circuit on a protoboard and connect the output to the 5v pin.
