or taking it out of context and telling people she said them. In Washington,

I suppose to be fair to Sarah Palin,  there is some confusion about where and what Washington is , outside of the US :-)

Dead right about the power reference, I think its a great idea showing location, I am saying I was a bit naive thinking that everyone knows what country Cape Town is in ( and your link proves it  !! )

I just added  South Africa  to my  Cape Town location, there might be some that don't know what country the Worlds most beautiful city is :-)

What shift register are you using ?

Try a search on TPIC6B595 in the arduino searchbox top right

Youre only pushing one byte in, so next loop it is pushed through to the next register

try

Code:
int latchPin = 8;
int dataPin  = 11;
int clockPin = 12;

void setup() {
  pinMode(latchPin, OUTPUT);
  pinMode(clockPin, OUTPUT);
  pinMode(dataPin, OUTPUT);
}

void loop() {

  digitalWrite(latchPin, LOW);
  shiftOut(dataPin, clockPin, MSBFIRST, B00000001);
  shiftOut(dataPin, clockPin, MSBFIRST, B11111110);
  digitalWrite(latchPin, HIGH);
delay (1000);  // so you can see the results

  digitalWrite(latchPin, LOW);
  shiftOut(dataPin, clockPin, MSBFIRST, B11111110);
  shiftOut(dataPin, clockPin, MSBFIRST, B00000001);
  digitalWrite(latchPin, HIGH);

delay (1000);  // so you can see the results

}

(modified to swap display)

Hi James,   have you got the serial out from the first 595 going to the serial in of the second?     (the clock and latch lines are paralleled to all the chips.)

And after you take the latch low you must send enought data - 2 bytes, to fill both shift registers , before taking the latch pins high again.

( The first 8 bits will go right through the first register and out the far end to fill the second )

Only when you have filled all the registers do you want to latch the data to the outputs by taking the latch high again.

( and ignore the capacitor shown on the latch pin on the tutorial, it should not be there )

But plants are living too.

I wonder what Prince Charles used to talk to his plants about ?    "  I think I will have you tonight, on a bed of rocket ,  with a little thousand island dressing ,  yummee "

No dolphins were harmed in making this tuna.
  LOL

People can't swim with Tuna, they are too fast, so we dont bond with them ?

Many people in India revere cows,  we eat them , many people eat dogs in the Far East, we find it disgusting.

If they raced sheep at Ascot, would we not have lamb on our menus?

I love garlic snails, and while not bonding with them, my grandaughter finds it disgusting :-)    ( perhaps its the garlic breath she finds disgusting come to think of it ! )

Other vegatarians reckon we were never meant to eat meat, yet we have an omnivores teeth and can digest any meat with our single stomach.

Look at the queues at the meat counter at the supermarket, with all the people hunting and gathering.

Don't tell me its not right to eat meat from animals that have been raised for just that purpose ( as opposed to pets or working animals ) when you drink milk, and eat eggs :-)

Wow, this little middle-of-the-night, can't sleep post is so long, perhaps I should tag it as code  !

"I've just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer...AND THEY'RE OFF"

Tesco now forced to deny presence of zebra in burgers, as shoppers confuse barcodes for serving suggestions.
