1  Using Arduino / Displays / Which touchscreen works with Leonardo on: August 02, 2013, 07:45:57 am

I'm looking for a touch screen which works with leonardo. It would be nice if it also supports SD cards. I ask because the displays I found mention that the don't work with leonardo.

Can anyone pls explain why most touch screens don't support leonardo?

I played around with mine and couldn't get it working. At first the Compiler complained about missing stuff. But this were just the missing defined constants for the pins.

I fixed this but I wonder if this was the only problem because I didn't show the gfx demo. (which could also be cause by other issues)

One guy mentioned that the pinout has changed but I don't see a difference except the ICS connector is missing but it's not used for this shield.

thx n rgds

Could someone pls enlighten me what speaks technically against my shield?
2  Using Arduino / Displays / Could this Display/Shield use too much power despite psu on: July 21, 2013, 02:59:04 pm
I bought a shield with a touch screen some time ago. 261120303957 @ebay I lost interest because I couldn't get the SD card working but now I wanted to play with it again.

I know that the graphics were working once. I shows a demo of what can be done. Now I have one Ardunino were it worked. I have a Leonardo were the screen stays white but it looks that the the graphics demo started but the display went white after 0.5 sec. And ein have a different Ardunio clone which I now think is toast because it doesn't react anymore and it got super-hot within 5 sec. I always used an extra PSU.

Any Tips?

I really would like to get it running with the Leonardo.

stupid me played with Leonardo and keyboard emulation. Now it fires key strokes every 1s. This makes it currently impossible for me to reprogram it.

What can I do?

5  Using Arduino / Storage / Re: microSD doesn't initialise on this TFT shield. It's standard pins 10 – 13. on: December 11, 2012, 12:16:28 pm
I am not sure if we are talking about the same shield. With your shield the TFT can be separated from the actual shield. That's not possible with the one I bought on eBay 261120303957 (the 1st picture is fake - the others are OK).

anyway I will check if some wiring is wrong.
6  Using Arduino / Storage / microSD doesn't initialise on this TFT shield. It's standard pins 10 – 13. on: December 10, 2012, 07:52:43 pm

I bought this TFT Touch shield on eBay 261120303957 which also has a micro SD Slot. The provided lib/examples work with the TFT and Touchscreen but not with the microSD.

I actually posted here,134708.msg1014213.html#msg1014213 but it doesn't get any further on the SD issue so I switched to the Storage Forum. Libs from the seller are here

The seller provided libs for Arduino 0.23. I think they are the standard Libs. My EthernetShield works instantly. The Ethernet also works with the new SD libs provided with 1.0.2. The SD part of the TFT shield doesen't work with any version.

I am not a pro. But when I compared the provided 0.23 with the current 1.0.2 libs there's no big difference except some additional functions (multiple files) and things which change from 0.23 to 1.0. So I think the seller just threw those SD libs in.

According to the shield the pins used should be standard 10 to 13. Here is a picture of the pin out.

10   SS
11   DI
12   DO
13   SCK

In the examples of the standard SD lib  Pin 4 is used as CS. But as I understood this is for the ethernetshields and it switches between the SD and the ethernet chip. So I think Pin 4 should not be used as CS on the TFT shield as there are no two Chips like on the Ethernet shield.

Anyway I tried SD.begin(4), SD.begin(10) and SD.begin() but I could not get the crad initialized.

Any ideas? Anything I could check?

Thx n rgds

7  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: noob: Shield w/ spfd5408 controller 240x320 - I don't know which library on: December 06, 2012, 01:53:24 pm
Hi the TFT didn't work with .23.  The Ethernet shield did.

What I am curious about is the CS (chip select) pin 4. It makes sense with the ethernet shield as only the ethernet or the SD chip can be activice at
one time. But with the TFT shield this should not be a problem as they do not shar the ISP/ICSP. But calling SD.begin() or SD.begin(10) instead of SD.begin(4) didn't help

8  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: noob: Shield w/ spfd5408 controller 240x320 - I don't know which library on: December 05, 2012, 04:43:59 pm
as said I couldn't use the SD lib from the package/shield in Arduino 1.x

I installed the Arduino 1.0.2. If I upload the SD-File-example it cannot initialize the SD card. If I exchange the lcd shield w/ the ethernet/microSD shield the the SD-File-example works. So my microSD at least has the correct format

I compared the Arduino 1.0.2 SD lib with the one from the LCD shield.

The lib in 1.0.2 just seems updated (Arduino.h, size_t instead of void ...) and some new functions (multiple files ..).

I would have expected maybe different Pinout but Sd2PinMap.h. It's the same except a section teensy/leonardo - this shouldn't matter.

the following seems to fail:

  Serial.print("Initializing SD card...");
  // On the Ethernet Shield, CS is pin 4. It's set as an output by default.
  // Note that even if it's not used as the CS pin, the hardware SS pin
  // (10 on most Arduino boards, 53 on the Mega) must be left as an output
  // or the SD library functions will not work.
  pinMode(10, OUTPUT);

  if (!SD.begin(4)) {
    Serial.println("initialization failed!");
  Serial.println("initialization done.");

How I said this works with the ethernet shield. But on the lcd shield pin 4 is connected tio the lcd and not to the sd card ...

ps: i have two lcd shields and two different arduinos. On one the graphic demo seems to go white screen after a while. Somewhere on google I read about a Problem with another LCD that mabe the backlight takes to much power and the CPU goes crazy. So Arduino should not just be powered with USB.

thx for the link.

have you checked the SD yet? I couldn't get it running.

I guess I have to delete the original SD and replace it with the one from the package. I get some of the same errors as above but I can't fix all :-(
10  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: noob: Shield w/ spfd5408 controller 240x320 - I don't know which library on: November 29, 2012, 01:39:14 pm
update: seems like the compiler can't figure out what/where Print is in 1.0.1.

I got it working in 1.0. But I had to make three changes.
1st deleting the h files in the PDE dir
2nd converting "void TFTLCD::write(uint8_t c)" to "size_t TFTLCD::write(uint8_t c)" in TFTLCD.cpp and .h
3rd exchange #include "WProgram.h" to #include "Arduino.h" in TFTLCD.h

Haven't checked SD slot yet

I also noticed that the Display is only fixed on one side on the shield. So it's a little loose and this is noticable when I use the touchscreen. But i think this can be easily fixed with clue or double sided tape.
11  Using Arduino / Displays / Re: noob: Shield w/ spfd5408 controller 240x320 - I don't know which library on: November 29, 2012, 01:03:11 pm
just checked my eMail and i got the same link.

So now I am quickly copying the 3 subs of the lib dir in the lib dir of my arduino-1.0.1.

I when I try both test PDEs I get an error in TFTLCD.h:

In file included from graphicstest_pde.cpp:1:
TFTLCD.h:64: error: expected class-name before '{' token
TFTLCD.h:66: error: expected `)' before 'cs'
TFTLCD.h:68: error: 'uint16_t' does not name a type
TFTLCD.h:71: error: 'uint16_t' has not been declared

#define TFTLCD_PANEL_IF_CTRL5 0x97
#define TFTLCD_PANEL_IF_CTRL6 0x98

#define TFTLCD_DELAYCMD                 0xFF

#define swap(a, b) { int16_t t = a; a = b; b = t; }
//  <- this is line 64
class TFTLCD : public Print {
  TFTLCD(uint8_t cs, uint8_t cd, uint8_t wr, uint8_t rd, uint8_t reset);

  uint16_t Color565(uint8_t r, uint8_t g, uint8_t b);

I also wonder why the copies of the lib-h-files are in the pde folder. Shouldn't it be sufficient if they are in the lib folder?
12  Using Arduino / Displays / noob: Shield w/ spfd5408 controller 240x320 - I don't know which library on: November 28, 2012, 01:57:39 pm
So without much thinking I order two of those 261120303957 @ebay.

I always wanted to have a Display, this is already on a shield, has touch screen and an SD slot. So without much thinking I ordered it because it looked safe.

Problem now is that there are no libs linked on the ebay page and after googling for its controller it doesn't find much. Except few AVR projects.

The seller hasn't answered yet (12h). I give him some thime but I am also eager to see it working.

So could anyone help me out?

thx n rgds

ps: the auction says that it's not compatible with Leonardo. I thought leonardo is just an normal arduino which can do HID. So I would have expected that the shield pin layout is the same. Did I miss something?=
13  Using Arduino / Networking, Protocols, and Devices / noob confuse with SPI - setSS() missing / RFM70 module on: January 16, 2012, 04:43:02 am

as said I'm am not an expert. I want to get a RFM70 modul running and tried/copied the example code from

I am not sure how outdated the code is even it says 2011. But they used WProgram.h and Spi.h which is now Arduino.h and SPI.h.

I changed "Spi.mode(1<<SPR0)" to "SPI.setDataMode(1<<SPR0)". But I am not 100% sure if this is right.

They also call "Spi.setSS()" quite often. But I can't find any replacement.

So did anything change with the SPI library. Is there a document about this?

Or is there any other example running RFM70 available?

Any suggestions are welcome.

thx n rgds

I really would like to hear some opinions.

I already got the accelerometer working. The z-axis is influenced by gravity is clear to me. But X and Y delivere different values.Could this be normal?

Hi, I am a noob myself but I can give you a hint on this one.

I bought a starter kit which is described in pdf ASKManualRev4.pdf <-- google it to find it. The PDF describes background and the experiments. It gives a lot of insights!!!

It does a lot of experiments with LEDs (Traffic lights, mood lamp, knight rider ...) and also includes an 8x8 LED matrix and does some sprites.

For some single LEDs you need resistors and for the matrix you need the shift registers.

hope this helps
