This is what I'm talking about.

"It is also recommended to use a prototyping shield of some sort to connect the led matrices and interface with some sort of controller. (Instructions for this coming soon.) "

Taken from Page 2

Thanks

This is a great project. I'm building this with my 10 year old son. He is great at soldering.
In the Tayda site instructions there is a mention of a controle module being developed. (The one used in the video I guess?) Any news about that?

Thanks for the great woek and for sharing.
3  Using Arduino / Microcontrollers / What to do with unused pins? on: March 30, 2011, 01:44:47 pm
I'm getting ready to draw the PCB for a project.
Some of the analog pins of the chip are not used.
Do I need to do something with them? Ground them? Or just leave them be?

From the blink sketch after it's supposedly on the chip.

OK I've manage to get past the signature error by changing the signature in the avrdude.conf file.
Avrdude tells me that the upload is successful, but I get no blinking?

Maybe just changing the signature is not enough? Maybe something more is needed?

There as to be a way to get this working!

Ok now that I'm back home.....I've check my chip and it's an atmega48PA
It's signature is: 1e 92 0a
What and where do I need to change to make this signature change?

I've never used avrdude by itself. Don't mind trying it....but I don't have any programmer other the mu Arduino board (Arduino as ISP).
Would avrdude support Arduino as ISP as a programmer?

Thanks for all the the help westfw.....for this and all the other problems I had before.

What do I need to do to change that signature?
Change something in the board.txt? or recompile something (witch I'm not setup to do!  smiley-sad)

With a 10uF cap between GND and RESET? The - of the cap to GND.  Tried that!  smiley-sad
10  Using Arduino / Microcontrollers / Need help loading sketch on atmega48 using Arduino Uno as ISP. on: March 24, 2011, 08:27:35 pm
I tried loading the blink sketch to an atmega48 using my Uno as ISP.
I've installed Mark S  extras from http://www.avr-developers.com/
I've setup the atmega48 on a breadboard with a 16mhz resonator.
But I keep getting this error message:

avrdude: Expected signature for ATMEGA48 is 1E 92 05
Double check chip, or use -F to override this check.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
11  Development / Other Software Development / Loading to arduino split into 2 steps. on: March 24, 2011, 09:53:00 am
What change would I like to see?

Loading to arduino split into 2 steps.
Step 1 would compile (a bit like the verify, but would save the resulting files) and step 2 would load to the chip. (if no verified compiled version of the sketch exist it would compile one and load it to the chip. But one exist it would not re-compile but load the existing verified one.)

Why?
When loading big sketches on multiple chips, it take a while to compile and the load to the chip. If there is no changes to the sketch....why re-compile it every time?

Another benefit is that users wanting to load sketches whit something else then the IDE would be able to easily create compile files to a permanent and known location.
12  Using Arduino / Microcontrollers / Re: Change clock frecuency (bootloader) on: March 21, 2011, 06:17:31 am
You don't need to get a 8mhz clock. It's internal to the chip.

Did you perhaps reinserte the chip backwards? I did that once  smiley-red
14  Using Arduino / Installation & Troubleshooting / Re: UNO chip slightly melted on: March 18, 2011, 12:12:53 pm
Is it melted or is that just residue flux?
My Uno also as this flux residue on it.
15  Using Arduino / Microcontrollers / Re: Uploading a skectch into atmega328 that has uno bootloader and is in circuit on: March 17, 2011, 06:59:31 am
click upload on IDE
wait for sketch size
tap std reset quickly

OK, so this is how you guys are doing it!

But by jumping the 2 resets together I just let the IDE reset when it needs to reset.

You just gave me an idea! What if I cut the RESET-EN trace and replace it with a 2 pin male header.
When I want the board to act normally I just put a jumper connecting the 2 pins of the RESET-EN.
When I want to load stuff to and external chip. I remove that jumper, connect a jumper to the live side of the RESET-EN and to the reset pin of the external chip. And also put a jumper between the board reset and GND to desable the on board chip.

This should work! No?
