Sorry, I meant would they be safe for students to use after the conversion.

For anyone intersted this is the companies position on the situation

The PowerSwitch Tail II will not work in the UK because it is designed for 120 vac mains only.

We offer the PST IIU-240 kit for use in your country. This is a kit (soldering required) without the power cords. To adapt it for the UK, purchase an extension cord locally and cut to the desirable lengths from the plug side and from the socket side. Then solder wires to the pads on the PCB per the instructions (plug side to " LINE" and socket side to "LOAD").

Seek local help if you do not have the required tools or skills.
