151  Using Arduino / Microcontrollers / FTDI Basic Breakout - to standalone arduino on: August 24, 2011, 08:40:01 am
Hi,

I´m trying to design a standalone arduino without the USB-to-serial components.

I´m planning to use the FTDI Basic Breakout board from Sparkfun, to substitue this block of components.

At the moment, i´m having some problems with figuring out the what are the connections i have to garantee that exist on the board so my task of programming the pre-bootloaded re-designed version is possible.

The pinout of the FTDI is the following:
  • GND
  • CTS
  • POWER
  • TXO
  • RXI
  • DTR

Basically i´m not sure where i should connect the CTS and DTR.

From what i read the DTR is supposed to be connected to the RESET of the ATMEL.

But where is the CTS supposed to go?

Best regards

Hi,

I am trying to design a new arduino Mega board, for standalone applications.

On doing this redesign i would like to remove all USB related components in the actual Mega board.
So the idea was to have some SIL terminals in the new board where i could plug in the other block (ATMega8U2) that would help me to program the ATMega 2560.

Is this possible? What is the way to go when trying to build standalone devices with arduino?

Thank you

Hi,

I wanted the BOM for the arduino Mega 2560.
But, not the one exportable from Eagle (that one is incomplete) i needed one with real references from producers.

Because this way, having real references from producers, it´s easier to find equivalent electronic components.

Can someone with experience in the arduino production area help me?

Best regards

Hi,

Does anyone knows of companys based in Europe that to the same as Rugged Circuits?

Best regards

Hi,

There is another possibility.

If you know some box of the same type and with same features, a little bit bigger, with 110mm instead of 90mm.
I can design a cheap 1 face board to attach the new components i need and fit the arduino Mega 2560 little if it was a shield.

What do you think of this idea?

That´s a cool support, but for my problem i think is not enough.

By "changing slightly" i mean changing the following aspects:
  • 1) The shape of the board so it can fit the box;
  • 2) The output terminals, to screw terminals (for external cabling);
  • 3) Maybe latter i would like to add a few components (onboard), that for now are external;

Do you think this is possible?
Can you estimate the increase percentage in arduino Mega pricing for this option (not taking into account the 3rd change).

Are there any companys like Ruggedcircuits based in Europe?

Thanks

Hi,

i was interested in asking for a quote on PCB production and assembly to a company.
Is someone able to refer a few of the several that are used?

Basically i need to change slightly the shape of the arduino Mega 2560 board, so it can fit this box http://www.camdenelec.com/pdf/CMEBCVBp166.pdf.

That´s why i would like to talk with someone related with the production process.

Cheers

Hi ppl,

Does anyone know what is the company responsible for the production and assembly of the arduino Mega 2560 PCB?

Best regards

mmcp42, basically that´s what i did...

cheers

Hi,

I liked the sarcasm, it only hit me that i hadn´t post the code when you told me...
But i thought the problem wasn´t the code, because it compiles with no problem or warning, main reason why i hadn´t post it.

After a lot of hiting with the head, i copy pasted the all sketch to a new .pde and it seems to be uploading normally now smiley
Really really strange.

I´m going to read carefully your alternative FalconFour, just in case it happens to me.

Thank you guys!

Hi,

I was doing some more testing, and the problem doesn´t happen with other sketches i have.

Only happens with this one...

Any ideas

Hi,

I was developing as usual, and suddenly the IDE / uploading process starts beahving strangely.

I am able to compile the program.

But when i upload it to my arduino mega, it flashes the leds normally and when it stops the flashing, in the IDE nothing happens, it keeps with the phrase "Uploading to I/O Board" it doesn´t passes to Uploaded state.

When i hit the STOP button it shows the following error message:

Could not delete C:\DOCUME~1\LUISSO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\build3476415830577345086.tmp\Wiseware_it1_17_05_2011.cpp.hex

This phrase appeared a little later:

avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout...

Does anyone has any idea, whar might be the problem.

Thank you!

Wouldn´t it be easier to increase the SPI speed?

Hi,

Is it possible to speed up SD Card communication?

Best regards

Hi,

I don´t print OK in my code.

That´s streami is returning from the fgets.
