I know github is the most popular but it has some limitations and you cannot keep the code private without paying.

What Versioning system do you use for private projects?

Hi Zipporobotics

Working on a Windows 8.1 machine, I use Git - specifically, Atlassian's free SourceTree application to manage my local and remote Git repositories, with GitHub and Bitbucket for the remotes.  Bitbucket provides free private repositories.

Git.  With TortoiseGit as the front end.

RCS.
I find it sufficient for one-person projects...
