While intently working on a project board fell out of my hand and come in contact with 12v on the bottom side of the board 2-3 sec or so. well I think I selled that magic smoke and now the flashing light stays solidly lit. This was only second time ever played with it. Wife was "upset" $20+ down the drain. any way to get out of the dog house with her by fixing the board. Thanks

I would be taking her out to dinner trying the loop-back test to try to see which part was damaged. If it is the processor chip, and if it plugged into a socket (not surface mounted) you can probably replace it for $5. But it might be the voltage regulator or some other part. Also measure a few points (eg. 5V, 3.3V) and see if the expected voltage is there.

Well I plugged in the board again and the chip started getting hot so I am hoping it was the chip. I went ahead and ordered a new one well see what happens next. thanks for the links and loop back ideas.

Well just as an update, I ordered a new chip on Ebay and received an Atmega328 not an Atmega328p like it came with. installed it ans now seem to have it work properly. I will have to look at it more to find out what is wrong, thanks.

The difference between version P and non P is the signaturess, and pico power possibility, take a look at this thread
