UNO r3 and ETHERNET SHIELD r3

I have checked everything I can think of used router, direct connection and all of the examples cause me problems. The chat server when connect endlessly spits out charters after it connects as well as the telnet client. The web server examples never display anything but a blank page. I am not new to microcontrollers but I can not figure this out. Do I have a bad shield? Can anyone comment on this problem I have tried diffrent line type setting auto scroll ect in serial monitor. Below is a picture of telnet client conneted

What version IDE is that? The versions prior to V1.0.1 had a bug in the ethernet library that would continuously spit out lines of characters over and over forever.

You can try one of two things.

Upgrade to IDE v1.0.1

or
patch the bug in your current version. Here is the report with the patch.
