Topic: why two reset pins on the arduino mini pro? (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

just wondering, do they both offer the same functionality?
i guess so.. then why with such limited space (and two analog pins on the inside)

Hi,

Yes, the 2 reset pins are equivalent
Here is a link to the schematic

It seems that all the micro signals are already available therefore to complete the pinout GND and Reset are present on both side

The pins on the left side in your picture are for connecting an FTDI Basic (or equivalent) for sketch downloads via the serial port.
You can connect other things to them after you get your sketch downloaded; with a little attention to your connection strategy you shouldn't need to tho.

Making the board a couple of tenths longer bringing A4, A5 (and analog input only pins A6  and A7) out to the sides would have been convenient.

im refering to these two (seemingly) duplicate pins

I can only guess compatibility with something (don't know what).

You may as well ask why there are three GND pins. And two VCC pins. By saving those pins the other two analog pins could have been moved to the outside.

Seems odd, but there you go.

This is the correct schematic for the Pro Mini
http://arduino.cc/en/uploads/Main/Arduino-Pro-Mini-schematic.pdf
As I explained, the 6 on the left for connecting an FTDI Basic for programming, the rest are for connecting up  to your circtuit.
You'd have to ask sparkfun why 2 reset pins. We don't know.

i was thinking more of excato knife and bridging\soldering.
i lack the foo for pcb manufacturing.

Ah.
I prefer wirewrap assembly myself for projects like that.
