I extracted the microcontroller from the arduino and i tried with no luck to program it in a breadboard.I tried  connecting  a 120Ω resistor in reset but nothing changed.Any other ideas how to make this work?

programming as in bootloader?  (I'll assume no since you yanked it from working Uno..but you didnt specify)

Do you have your 'FTDI' lines worked up as in nicks link?

What about the reset pin and resistor?

tried to program it how? Your description is a bit vague, if you could give a better description we might be able to give you some useful ideas. Got a picture?
