Guys,
Help me building a home automation device using vb and arduino pro mini. i wanted something cool to happen after reading my voice. i.e- Turn on tv, turn on a coffee maker etc.

Sounds like you want to look in to the X10 protocol - controlling mains devices through the mains cabling.  There's lots of specialised hardware available for it, and can be interfaced to the PC, microcontrollers, etc.
