Have you tried your local Hackerspace or Maker Space. Manchester has a couple of good hackerspaces.

At our Newcastle Maker Space we have a regular Weekend Workshop once a month and a  evening open session twice a month. Anyone can pop along during these and get their hands on a Arduino and play. We do the same for the Raspberry Pi and 3D Printing.

There's an
Introductory Course on at the Manchester Digital Laboratory on the 1st September. There's also a hackers group that regularly meets up (hacman is the name) on Wednesdays if that's any help.
