Topic: Arduino IDE 1.0.1 Cannot Edit/Save/Paste (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

Just installed Arduino 1.0.1 on 64-bit win 7 PC.

Driver installed easily (Mega 2560.inf)
Can select board, port etc. Can select example (blink) and download to Mega 2560 board and the on-board led does indeed blink.  Outwardly everything seems OK.

When I come to edit a single thing or try to paste into a new blank window (I know that examples are read-only -- I'm not talking about that) I cannot. I get a system beep. Save and Save As... are permanently greyed-out.

Reinstalled the application - same result. Re-installed Java 32 & 64 bit - same result. Tried running as Administrator - same result. Nothing seems to fix the problem.

The only thing I have done is to install Atmel Studio 6 - but I cannot see why that should prevent the Arduino IDE from working.

There is not a single post about this issue so this is most likely a driver/Java/configuration issue but I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any thoughts anyone?

In preferences make sure "use an external editor" is not selected.

Cool, glad you got it.

By the way, thank you for being as detailed as possible in your original question.  That's always helpful.

Hey thanks guys for posting this topic. Even I also wonder, why I was not able to edit something through Arduino ide.
Still I doubt on one thing, that last time I was able to edit my code through arduino ide. The next time, without selecting an option for using external editor, how come this option automatically got selected?
Let me know if you have any answer for that. That will help to prevent similar type of issues in future.

Thanks & Regards,
