Last night I ordered some EEPROM from http://am.renesas.com/ I would have liked to get a UC chip but, I don't know if I could put them to use. I will post if I get the shipment. I got an MCU from them, they limit you to quantity one of one part when I was on there. Was it the same for you, only one EEPROM?

I got an MCU from them, they limit you to quantity one of one part when I was on there. Was it the same for you, only one EEPROM? I tried to order 1 piece of SVRAM and only 1 piece of EEPROM but, my cart only shown 3 pieces of EEPROM. It seemed like that was the way it had to be. The shipping notice shows the EEPROM is being sent.

OK, I tried getting some samples this week and I scored the following:
Maxim: 2x MAX7219 2x MAX6977
Atmel: 2x ATtiny84 3x ATtiny85
TI: 2x TLC5940 2x TLC5916 3x TPD2E009DBZR (needed to hack my DSO Quad)
The Maxim7219 came in a pretty little presentation box. The MAX6977s came in a tube marked "MAXIM engineering samples". All the rest came in generic chopped-off tubes, all from the same place, all in identical boxes. Probably some distributor or other.
If any manufacturers are reading this: Free samples are a good service, especially to students/hobbyists who don't have accounts with Farnell/RS/etc. and will be killed by shipping costs if they try to order single chips from them. All the chips above found a good home and will be used, not hoarded (apart from the MAX7219s, because I like the box...good advertising strategy!) PS: It would be nice to have an option for USPS shipping instead of Fedex. I wouldn't have minded at all.

Mine came like that too. If I am not mistaken, they come from Digi-Key.

Mine came like that too. If I am not mistaken, they come from Digi-Key. Looks like it. The address on the paperwork is "701 Brooks Ave., Thief River Falls", that's Digi-Key's address.

Many, many semiconductor companies use Digikey. Maxim, ON, and Microchip do it themselves. I think Linear does also. Maxim is cheap, they use USPS but USPS is actually very efficient and usually gets it to you in 2 days. I sort of like them doing that and saving themselves a bundle instead of doing it like ON and Maxim which send the stuff overnight from Asia. What do you think that costs? Here is a track of something that I sampled that ended up on backorder at ON that they just send to me:
Oct 19, 2012 8:08 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery AURORA, IL Oct 19, 2012 7:20 AM At local FedEx facility AURORA, IL Oct 19, 2012 5:22 AM At destination sort facility CHICAGO, IL Oct 19, 2012 4:07 AM Departed FedEx location MEMPHIS, TN Oct 19, 2012 1:39 AM International shipment release - Import MEMPHIS, TN Oct 19, 2012 12:29 AM Arrived at FedEx location MEMPHIS, TN Oct 19, 2012 2:29 AM In transit SENNAN-SHI JP Oct 18, 2012 5:55 PM In transit SINGAPORE SG Oct 18, 2012 4:59 PM In transit SINGAPORE SG Oct 18, 2012 4:56 PM In transit SINGAPORE SG Oct 17, 2012 11:45 PM Shipment information sent to FedEx Oct 18, 2012 11:26 AM Left FedEx origin facility SINGAPORE SG Oct 18, 2012 10:24 AM Picked up SINGAPORE SG
I don't mind that they charged me $11 for shipping and handing 2 separate shipments like this.
14 hours Singapore to Memphis. Wow.

OK, I tried getting some samples this week and I scored the following:
Maxim: 2x MAX7219
I am surprised they allow 7219s to be sampled. I thought they stopped production on that and instead are selling the pin-compatible and slightly improved 7221s.

They had both on offer when I was there. I chose the 7219 because I wanted the 'classic' version of the chip. I actually asked for three different chips but they only sent two of them due to "lack of stock" on the third (I don't remember the chip number...)

Just got shipping notification from TI for:
LM2678 - SIMPLE SWITCHER High Efficiency 5A Step-Down Voltage Regulator
LM2596 - SIMPLE SWITCHER Power Converter 150 KHz 3A Step-Down Voltage Regulator
Was trying to find something that I could run servos off of.
Anybody have any experience with this type?

I have a few Atmel CPLDs they nicely sent me on my doorstep now, UPS confirms. I got the Xilinx CPLDs to program out (no samples! ) now I have to try with Atmel. Plus, Atmel has them in an easy to use PLCC-84 which I quite like.
