is the middle pin the gate No it is the drain. Look at the data sheet, the last page. Lay it flat on its back with the hole at the top. Left pin Gate Middle pin drain right pin source

Components are named, which one is the problem? R1 could be missing something, maybe author would check the correct value. Or it could be just 10.

It's 10 ohms.
10 on its own is 10. (What do you think it meant?) If you go 10 meters that is 10 meters. If you go 10K meters that's 10 kilometers. It's pretty straight-forwards.

Let me ask you a question. R2 is labelled 10K. Do you think that is 10K ohms? Or if not, what do you think it is? I'm interested.
