Are they they separate or geared together?, what do you think?

And it needs a seconds hand to form an "8"

Separate, and they are not standard clocks. Hands on standard clocks form a 90° angle at 9:00, but not at 3:30, 9:30, etc. Pretty cool, though.

They are geared separate I think, but they are synchronized quite well.

I like the fractal concept in it. clocks at 2 levels.
