1. Can the Nano operate a stepper motor using this Gravitech drive shield? The support man at robotshop.com says it has never been done before is this true?

2. Does it matter which way I screw the 4-wires form the bipolar stepper into the green terminals as long as I have found the ones that are paired using a multi meter. So that I screwed the paired leads into either the (A1 & A2) or the (B1 & B2) terminals.

If you have bidirectional control of two motor outputs, that's enough to drive a four wire stepper motor. Yes, it matters which way round you connect the coils.
