Topic: Alternative Text Editor for Mac with Syntax Highlighting? (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

I know that I can set "use external editor" in the preferences in order to use an external editor for my code.  What I can't figure out is how to get an external editor to do syntax color coding with the .ino file.  I have tried several different text editors that say they support C files, but the arduino extension is .ino, not .c .

Can somebody recommend a text editor that uses syntax highlighting with the .ino, preferably for Mac.  Or tell me how to convert the .ino to a .c for editing, while still using the Arduino IDE for compiling/uploading?

Sorry for the n00b question, and sorry if the answer is completely obvious.  I have tried searching the forum and the internet in general, but haven't been able to figure it out.

BBEdit (http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/) can do it. Have a look at this thread - http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,108519.0.html.
