i'm not entirely sure or this is what you meant but i have made a screenshot of it.
i tried it with 2 techniques with the administrator rights from the start menu and with the shift key right click and then open command window here.
both without success, i'm not getting back any kind of error just the splashscreen and then nothing.

I'm not sure what to try next. Maybe someone else has seen this?

Try running Windows Update, make sure you have the latest ... stuff.

Try making a new user, and running logged in as that new user. Try giving the new user administrative rights.

If you have anti-virus, try turning that off (at least long enough to test).

It is very strange, running win7 64 bit too, without a problem (except for the n bugs in my progs).

Could you check windows application log, security log a.o. for messages?
to be found under  start-> computer ->(right mouse)  manage -> ...

i don't think it's a update problem (although when you asked me about the updates my computer has some issues with installing updates)
i completely removed my antivirus still the same

about the logs:
i have no idea what to look for, isn't there a option that i can save them somehow and send them to you?

the update problems have been fixed now arduino program still doesn't work

Did you try making the new user? With administrative rights?

Also my last grasp at straws is to suggest updating Java, since Arduino IDE uses it. How, I'm not totally sure.

And one more thing, install it to a different place (the Desktop perhaps?). Check the rights of the installed folder and all sub-folders. Make sure you have write access to them.

Please don't sent them !!  pfff,
These logs have timestamps and if you start the Arduino.exe at 15:00:00 you just look at the messages between 15:00 and 15:02 - there might be some Java message or missing something. The fun is that you will probably recognize very fast. (optionally start the IDE three times and look for a triple error msg)

But a new account saved the day (eh month) I saw, now the real work starts

Dear all,

I just downloaded the 0022 pack, and followed the Getting Started guide steps 1 to 4. The driver installation is OK for me on Windows 7. It is the step 5 that I can't get through:

"5 | Launch the Arduino application
Double-click the Arduino application."

I actually can not find the arduino.exe file. Can anyone tell me where to find it in the unzipped 0022 pack? Or is it somewhere else to download?

It is in the root of the unzipped folder, for me it is   C:\Program Files (x86)\arduino-0022

I downloaded one more time the file, and this time it works. I have the Arduino application on the root level. Cheers, and thanks a lot. iyad

This same thing happened to me, but in Vista.

My problem was the zipped folder.  I downloaded it and it opened in Winzip.  I didn't see any folder location, so I created one like C:\arduino or something, then dragged and dropped eveything into that folder.  When I went to run the program, I'd get the splash screen then nothing, just like you described. 

The key for me, was on download, don't open it, just right click and "extract".  THEN, the suggested folder location shows up and the program runs.  So for me it was just a winzip extract location problem.  Easy enough to overlook, but easy to fix.

Have this problem too, on Win7 and arduino-1.0.3. Solution - set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3.

Sorry for bad English...
