 Nice idea! Simple but, effective! In the video, it seems that it needs to be brighter but, that would be just a matte of adding more leds.

Euh...Why not just turn the tv on?

 The LED could run on batteries. The TV would take a lot more power.

Besides some projects are about figuring out how to do it yourself instead of buying something or going the easy route.
