          hello all, I have clearly read way too much and now i just need to ask because im clearly confused, i have altered a sketch but i now want to learn to create them. what program should i be using ?

In the Arduino IDE you select File->New to create a new, empty, sketch.  Then you start writing.  A good place to start is to copy the code from File->Examples->01.Basics->BareMinimum:
Code: [Select]

void setup() {
  // put your setup code here, to run once:

}

void loop() {
  // put your main code here, to run repeatedly:

}
