Topic: Wire following (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

Hi,
I want to install a special feature on my 6x6 robot.  I want to install a wire detection to follow cable under carpet.
Which sensors do you recommend? Which method did you use?  The cable have to be in boucle?

Thanks a lot

What is the cable going to be doing? Is it carrying some current that could allow it to be followed magnetically? Or, is is a big lump that could be sensed physically?

This kind of boucle?

A conductive cable (DC - AC? I don't know).
I think about inductive sensor.

I think an inductive sensor has to go around the wire. Google invisible fences. There are devices that dogs wear that shock them when they get too close to the "fence". You don't want to shock, but, you do want to detect the "fence".

I want to follow the cable not to define an aera where the robot have to stay in.

Nonetheless, the detection mechanism used will be the same.

Ok
I thought that something exist in robotic world ;-)

I will try with a pet fence...
any idea?

Chagrin

The underground wire in a pet fence is essentially the antenna of an AM radio transmitter. The collar is an AM radio. If you poke into the manuals for pet fences they will actually tell you to use a radio to make sure the signal is good.

I've not seen any prebuilt modules, but given the simplicity of AM transmitters/receivers it would be worth a shot.

I have got receive one.  I will open it and take picture.  Next step is to convert the output to 0-5V.
