Topic: Can I use a motor without a motor shield (Read 867 times) previous topic - next topic

I just want to know if it is possible to connect a motor to arduino uno r3 without a motorshield.

Without a "motor shield", yes. However you do need to shield an Arduino from the current load that the motor requires. In other words, do not attempt to drive a motor directly from an Arduino pin. You must use another device such as a transistor or perhaps (in some cases) a small relay as a 'switch' that the Arduino pin can activate and leave it up to the device to handle the current to the motor. - Scotty

And a flyback diode to stop the motor zapping the Arduino when it stops...

Have a look at this tutorial on how to run a motor with a transistor.
