i saw a scissors type device some time back that sizes resistors ,i think it was too pricy to build but i would like a resistor reader as my eyes arent too sharp ,i need a mag glass to get the colors right and even then i am not sure if i got em right

Just a thought...

Why not get your Arduino to do it for you? I'm sure that you could build a device around a Wheatstone bridge and display the results on an LCD.
