H!
My question is very simple.
Can I use a different usb to Serial Adapter with 4 Pins, or do I Have To use the compatibile fdti`s with 5 pins?

You can link an arduino without a brain (atmega) with 3 cables RX,TX,GND and program another one so I guess the 4 cables one is enough

Having an adapter that controls DTR pin is nice.
If not, manual control of reset pin is needed during programming.

This one, with trace to the Reset header pin cut, and jumpering the pin to the DTR hole, works well.
Then connect, +5, Gnd, DTR, Rx, Tx.

I have an usb adapter :
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121026653415

It has every possible uart pin :)
Can i use this?

CrossRoads

Perhaps.
Load up its driver.
Connect up +5, Gnd, DTR, Rx, Tx.

You may need to add an entry like this to

arduino-xx\hardware\arduino\programmers.txt
Code: [Select]

usbasp.name=MDFLY
usbasp.protocol=usbasp

I don't know is specifically needed for your card with its CH341A USB control chip.

I think I'd order this instead

and not wait weeks for delivery:

Hello again!
I recently got my mini pro, and the question is the same:

If i connect 4 wires to the module and serial adapter(TX,RX,Vcc,GND)
will it work?
of course i have to hit the reset button at the beginnning of loading up the program.... sequence

CrossRoads

Yes. May need Tx to Tx, Rx to Rx,
or Tx to Rx, Rx to Tx, have to play & see.

Press reset when you see "Compiled xxx of 32xxx bytes", something like that. May take a couple tries to find the right time.
