If you're interested in playing with GSM cell modem, grab a couple of these free sim cards from T-mobile. Lots of prepaid plans (might be crappy from my personal experience). You can deploy a setup to collect data for a whole month and only send the data on one day so with $2/day plan it pays only $2/month during the day it sends data and free for the other 29-30 days.

How do I get the $2/day data plan?  Last I checked it it impossible with T-Mobile.  The best I could find for 4G is $20/mo?  I would be happy with a slower speed.  I already have the Mifi hardware and SIM.  Link please?

I was just reading the pay by the day prepaid plan. If you choose $2 a day then you only pay for the day you are using the network:

They shipped really slowly. I just got the sim cards a couple days ago after ordering them the day I posted the thread. What cell modem are you using?
