Hello,

I have burnt the "ATmegaBOOT_168_atmega328.hex" bootloader file in a fresh Atmega328p using usbasp hardware & extremeburner software. then I have mede the breadboard connection exactly the same ( http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone ).

now, how to setup the tools>borad & tools>programmer option..?

I want to simply demonstrate the led blinking sketch myself.

current setup is
tools>boards>arduino uno
tools>programmer>AVRisp mkII

when I try to upload the "blink" programme the following error occurs

"Binary sketch size: 1,076 bytes (of a 14,336 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00"

What to do now...? kindly help

A lot can go wrong.
I don't know the extremeburner, but you should use the Arduino IDE.

In the Arduino IDE 1.0.3 select the board (Uno), the programmer (USBasp).
Connect the MISO, MOSI and other signals.
Write the bootloader from within the Arduino IDE.
The Arduino IDE will also write the fuses when writing the bootloader.

After that make a connection with the serial port with an adapter. The Arduino can now use the serial port to upload the sketches.
If you don't have a serial adapter, forget the bootloader and you can use the Arduino IDE with the programmer and use the option from the menu "upload with programmer". This will override the bootloader.
