hi everyone i have a problem controlling this linear motor (it's electromagnetic not ball screw)
http://download.beckhoff.com/download/Document/Catalog/Main_Catalog/english/separate-pages/Drive_Technology/AL24xx.pdf
and this is the driver
http://download.beckhoff.com/download/Document/Catalog/Main_Catalog/english/separate-pages/Drive_Technology/AX25xx.pdf

my question is should i buy a driver or can i control it by ARDUINO controller only
and if i should buy a driver how can i control it? is there any codes for linear motors , if i should buy the driver how can i control the driver?
thanks

I don't think you connected the grounds, Dave.

At those sorts of currents, you'll need a driver.
That you're asking the question implies (to me) that you should stump-up the cash for the proper driver.

I'm gonna assume this is the full datasheet for the driver your looking at
http://download.beckhoff.com/download/Document/Drives/AX2500_en.pdf

Glancing through it it looks like they give you the option to control it via a serial port (which arduino can talk to). Numerous encoders that the company also carries. Says something about a 5V control signal on 8.14.5.1  .  And a couple dozen other interfaces. Now I'd suggest you give the company a call and ask them about the how you can control it through the 5V bus or the RS232 (make sure to tell them your not using a computer, and instead a microcontroller), cause as I glance through, I'm not exactly seeing a list of serial commands to send to the thing. TAKE NOTES.
And then come back and tell us what you've learned. Then we can be of more service to you.
