Advanced Searching?

I was wondering if there was advanced searching, as i can't find info on searching syntax. If advanced searching isn't available, will it be likely it will be added in the future?

By advanced searching, i mean options like what fields to search (subject, author) or maybe date ranges. Right now it seems that searching looks for any of the words provided in any order in any text anywhere in the forum. Which isn't useful if i'm looking for something specific that uses multiple general words to describe.

I could just look at all the posts in the related subforum, but each subforum has pages and pages and pages and it would be much quicker if i could choose the forum and where to search and such.

No, there isn't an advanced search here. But, you could use google to help searching the forum

Go to: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
put in key search words,
use site or domain: Arduino Forum
or in a google search box put key words site:Arduino Forum

For example, search "__stepper driver *site:http://arduino.cc/forum*__" brings up hits only for the forum. You can also narrow the search to individual sections by adding to the link i.e. "stepper driver site:http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/board,11.0.html" (for the Networking, Protocols... Section)

Sure there is. Login and select "Search" at the top of the page next to "My Messages". Isn't that good enough?

I don't think it's good enough, IMO. Have more than 2 words in the search box and you will never find what you're looking for. There are no search parameters like using quotes for a phrase.

I like the simple and clean layout, but there are ways to make this forum work better for the members, and I don't understand why no one has implemented any upgrades. I believe that, a site should always be moving forward.

I have 3 sites of my own and always looking to improve their functionality.

Well, I'll be a monkeys uncle. Never knew that search page was here. Thanks, bookmarked!

It's also at the top of every page, even when you scroll down, right between "logged in as ..." and "My messages"

But it's not advanced..

Ah, so there it is. Somewhere that nobody can find it.

I don't see how being one of the six links at the top of every page on the forums that follows you around and being labeled "search" is hard to find.

Only if you did not read reply #2.

Funny.. I guess you guys are the smart ones. Can I be your friend?

My bad. I forgot to end that with

If you haven't noticed, the search function has one annoying feature, at least to me. If you search for something and select one on the items, when you press the back button, it gets weird about the reload. It isn't too bad unless you have gone a few pages forward to find the item you want, but "back" sends you back to page 1. :~
