Topic: What component can act as a switch and be controlled by an Arduino? (Read 510 times) previous topic - next topic

I have a small DC motor and an Arduino Uno board. The motor must be powered by it's own power supply but it also needs to be activated by the Arduino's programming.
Is there a component that acts as an electronic switch/gate (no physical input required) which, when told to by the Arduino, will enable/disable power accordingly to the motor?

Nothing fancy, just a simple on/off switch that can be controlled electronically.

Thank you so much man. I was looking for a specific keyword for the type of component I was looking for and that's the one: relay!

Is this multiple choice?
Relay, SSR, Vacuum tube, SCR, TRIAC, BJT, IGFET, SIT, DMOSFET...

And of course, the Kryton:
