I noticed some sample code posted for a DMX master device, has anybody tried coding a DMX slave/dimmer device? I've been struggling with this for quite a while.

right now, i think there is nothing developt for receving dmx with arduino, but there is a very good device, with programmer and code and all what you need at

Why it will be hard to port it to arduino? We are planning to work on this.

sorry for my late answer - I just saw this thread in my logs...

Arduino is a very nice project for many things - but not for DMX.
The reason is, there is no RS485/RS422 transceiver on board but an RS232 support (which makes sense for PC interfacing). Additionally there are no BCD- or DIP-Switches for the start address. In the end you would have to build my board around the Arduino. Bad idea.

If the Arduino development group agrees, I would propose that Arduino users can get my DMX-Transceiver for 5EUR instead of 7EUR and my Transceiver users can buy an Arduino for a bit less money...
If the Arduino-IDE allows hex export, I will try to help building an easy DMX interface (with the transceiver as target).

I decided to close my source, because 2002 I had designed a universal hardware on which many DMX-based apps can run - by porting the apps to other boards (i.e. Arduino) this universal effect would be destroyed and people would have to build lots of different boards...
