I'm trying to make a joystick to control a camera on a moveable arm, Im using a joystick I bought cheaply from ebay, but the joystick uses logarithmic potentiometers rather than linear

Is there any way to accurately convert these values to linear through additional hardware or software, or do I have to just change them to ones I buy from maplin or something?

You can "linearize" a log pot with an additional resistor.  It won't be perfect but may be good enough for what you want to do.  Have a look at page 3 of the link below.

good luck!

It is a pretty neat idea Richard.  I went the other way on a preamp project.  I had a nice Alps dual linear pot that was really well matched but I wanted a log control for volume control.
