"no knowledge of computers" is pretty much how I would describe them today as well. At least in their consumer products.

1956 was relatively early in the computer revolution.  Most computers were still using vacuum tube, the few hundreds of them that had been constructed to that date.
I will never ask you to do anything that I wouldn't do myself.

It was almost 20 years after that letter before HP started selling "computers."
