Is it possible to "mount" the external sd card to the linux file system? I've seen some code about using UCI but am not sure about the exact syntax.

It happens automatically: once you've plugged it in, it will be mounted at /mnt/sda1
If it has an "arduino" folder and this folder has a "www" subfolder, you can also upload html files together with your sketch http://scuola.arduino.cc/courses/lessons/cover/b4EoRkV
