My English is not very good but I'm reading the tutorial http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/DigitalReadSerial and translating for my students. I think this sentence is not correct:
"Connect three wires to the Arduino board. The first two, red and black, connect vertically to the two long rows on the side of the breadboard to Provide access to the 5 volt supply and ground."

I think that vertically must be horizontally. Some one with better English that me can say wich is correct? Thanks

CrossRoads

Vertically meaning the long strips along the outsides of the breadboard.
Horizontally meaning the groups of 5 pins that are in between the long outer strips.
