Bigger Bigger Smaller Smaller Reset Reset

Hi,

I'm new to this whole field and was wondering if anyone has any guides, or examples on controlling a lamp with an Arduino.
The idea I have in my head is something like this:

Wall Outlet => Arduino => Lamp

(Of course my computer would be connected to the Arduino)

I know there will be a relay system of some sort, but i'm not sure where to go from there. Basically what I want to accomplish is a way for me to control lights from my computer (Eventually my iPhone & iPad)

Does anyone have any ideas on accomplishing such a task? I've searched around the internet and only found tutorials on controller a small LED diode. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be superb!

Well, you start with one of these, which removes you entirely from the concern of safe handling of mains equipment.

(If you were already experienced enough, you would not be asking here.  smiley-lol)

And you connect it exactly where that LED would be in the examples you saw before
