Topic: Scum of the earth Spammers (Read 6 times) previous topic - next topic

Riva

Is it my imagination or are a lot more spammers targeting the forum lately.

Is there a simple way to reduce/prevent them, apart from finding them in person and "persuading" them not to do it any more. Maybe a Turing test when posting a new topic or replying for new members until they have x number of posts or a moderator marks you as safe?

All of these methods have been suggested, but no one is listening.
Next time you see one from an Indian charlatan, read it  before reporting it - you may be amused.... ;)

<Sigh> Story of this forums life. Maybe we can forward Spam to the Arduino Twitter & Facebook pages.   ]:)

They dump so frigging many at a time I could report it first and still have time to read it before it gets expunged because you must be overloaded with them.

All we need now is for the webmaster(s) to add a forward to Twitter/Facebook button  :smiley-roll:

It's not funny - we've lost a badly-needed moderator who has thrown up his arms in frustration and quit, whilst, meanwhile, the spammers can post ludicrous volumes of crap because no-one can be bothered to give us the tools to fight them.

A massive "Thank You" to everyone who reports these semi-wits.

It's a shame the spammers don't read their posts after the forum has done its magic.  :D

Makes as much sense as reading Lorem ipsum.

How easy would it be to allow some trusted people on here to be able to lock an account and report to moderator or will allowing that level of control means they could run amok.

Sounds like being a moderator to me - you should apply.

I dislike spam wasting time and other resources as much as anyone else.

However I am not happy with the title of this thread.

It sounds to me like a dangerous level of intolerance that is inappropriate anywhere, and especially on a forum about an Open Source product.

You'd prefer, perhaps "Nice-as-ninepence, invite-'em-home-to-marry-your-daughter spammers"?

They come here, wipe their little snotballs in the visitors book and bugger off.
What do you think they care about open source, except as a free advertising slot for their scams?

The thread title is moderated (by me) from what I would prefer to put there.

Why should I have to tolerate them? They are the invasive party here.
If I see a thread title for something that does not interest me I ignore it. If I participate in a thread and it does not go the way I'm happy with or degenerates into something of no interest to me (as I fear this thread may soon do) I end up deleting my posts in that thread so it does not get flagged up to me any more.
The level of spam that these scum are posting on here means I have to wade through lots (sometimes pages) of thread headers looking for posts that interest me. I hate to imagine what the moderators have to do to clean there mess up.

Maybe it's time the forum became somewhat self regulating...

If 3 or more (different ip's) hit the 'report spam' button the post goes straight to a catchment area to be analyzed.
