Hello. I am slightly new to Arduino(A few weeks), and I'd like to figure out how to make my Arduino email me without having to hook it up to an Ethernet Sheild. Is it possible to hook it up via my computer to email me?

Two ways come to mind.
1.   Send serial ASCII text to PC daemon running a mail client
2.   Send a discrete to PC parallel or serial port with a daemon running a mail client

I have a broken XP, a Vista that cannot extract downloaded files(use less here) and a 7 that isn't mine exactly. I just use it to program my Arduino. The XP is broken because it's missing something like a PSI driver. If I ever get the XP working, that will be the one I upload to. But can I just use the Serial port to send an email via gmail? Or is it not that simple? And what's a daemon?

you need a mail client, a simple text based one will probably be best.  it can run as a daemon on the PC

So could I use windows live mail, windows mail or gmail? And can I use the serial cable to run a daemon, say something off of cmd?
