This chip?
http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?pv16=6538&FV=fff40027%2Cfff800cd%2C274000f&k=atmega16&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ColumnSort=0&page=1&quantity=0&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25

Is like a crippled Atmega1284.
If you get the software tweaked, it should be usable in this board.
See the link for the mighty1284 core files and pins_arduino.h halfway down my page.

Okay I got it but plz can you show me how to customise the ATMEGA1284 Dev. Board which supports arduino IDE chang to accept the new ATMEGA16 configuration and how to make that dev. Board at home.
I am having basic and some complex tools and components like PCB and Crystals and others....
Plz tell me how to make that board . I am aware of power supply  system for the microcontrollers . I am having a USB_ASP Programmer and I am having arduino leonard too. I am currently using Bascom for my projects and I am able to  use ATMEGA16 AND ATMEGA8 BOTH with it .the board has an crystal on it of 16 Mhz.
