does anybody have the instruction on how to get the arduino board to work with windows 7? when I hook it up it detects the board and it says that the software is installed and is ready to use but I cant get it to work with the program.

You use "it" several times in your post, without clearly defining what "it" is.

Does the IDE start up? Does the IDE list the com port that the Arduino is attached to? What can't you get to work with what program?
The art of getting good answers lies in asking good questions.

Hi, most likely this means that the Arduino board has been recognized by the system as a new serial port.

Now you need to launch the Arduino IDE, select the serial port from the Tools menu and try some examples.
