Topic: Single-Sided Serial Board (version 3) (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic


Hello everyone,

I have made Single-Sided Serial Board (version 3):

I have connected it with USB-Serial port interface (HL 340) because I have laptop without serial port.

Is it possible to program Arduino sample programs over this interface? I have tried it and it does not work, :(



Do you have auto reset? Do you know what I am talking about?



yes I have put 2 jumpers: 1 for auto reset enabled and 1 for serial commnication (2-3)

This is good... So I lack further ideas... I think it could help when you post a diagram...

This HL-340 seems to be an USB/RS-232 converter.... Also it seems questionable whether it provides DTR.....,


I am little confused  :), I have only started with this board and I think that
will be very useful.

I have bought new Atmega8. Do I have to install bootloader or not. Can I just plug in USB/RS 232 converter (or directly to RS 232 port on desktop computer), run Arduino 0018, choose Blink example and upload to microcontroler?

or I have to first install bootloader?

I googled and found this

It is a nice board and it should work, as soon you have a bootloader in your chip.

However please make sure that your USB cable really has DTR on it. Please measure the voltage at Pin 4 of the 9p sub-D connector. Then open the serial monitor with the correct com port. Has that signal changed? Now close the monitor . Has the signal changed again?

Flashing a bootloader needs an ISP programmer.


This is the board I have made.

I think I do not have bootloader on it (when I press reset button LED dose not blink). I will make parallel programer and burn bootloader and then I will see,  :)

Burning the Bootloader

To burn the bootloader, you'll need to buy an AVR-ISP (in-system programmer), USBtinyISP or build a ParallelProgrammer. The programmer should be connected to the ICSP pins (the 2 by 3 pin header) - make sure you plug it in the right way. The board must be powered by an external power supply or the USB port.

Make sure you have the right item selected in the Tools | Board menu. Then, just launch the appropriate command from the Tools > Burn Bootloader menu of the Arduino environment. Burning the bootloader may take 15 seconds or more, so be patient.

I have even removes LED connected to pin 13.

Can you tell me, concerning this board, which version of software is the best, I have used 018 and I can not load bootloader?



I have not make good connection of one of ISP connector.

I am trying to load bootloader and program gives me an error:

avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000
0xff != 0x00
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch

any ideas how to fix it?
