Sounds like a good idea, but I must be being slow, I can't find an email address ::)

Short of sending to admin@arduino.cc and hoping for the best of course

mowcius

I suggest you PM Massimo or David about this.

I've sent a PM to Massimo :)

Also, the plot thickens...

There is no way those are going to line up, something is in the wrong place...
That shield lines up perfectly with both my Diecimila and Duemilanove, I haven't got the old mega, but I believe shields should be compatible regardless.

With some creative bending and soldering mine now lines up, but surely this isn't right.

Senso

The holes are pretty much mis-aligned.  :o

Sounds like the monkeys messed up with the 'industry standard arduino pin spacing'.
The old mega was fine for header spacing.

I had a Duemilanove that needed a connector reworked for alignment.

If you look at the main Uno pic you can see a 'tooth' on that as well.  lol.

Well I think that was in the minority though. I have heard limited complaints about the duemilanove but all I have heard so far about the new boards is bad design things.

but you will bash the arduino team without even contacting them first, sounds like this "reparable" reseller did just that, sold a defect board as repaired

Hello

We have written a blog post about this issue to respond to the claims made by Moogle

http://arduino.cc/blog/2010/10/01/one-bad-arduino-doesnt-spoil-the-barrel/

We would like to remind you that he has been offered a replacement and a full refund for the board no question asked and while manufacturing 20000 boards a very small number can , by mistake, end up being sold even if it failed the QA.

The mega2560 pin spacing IS actually different from standard Arduino spacing, in the Eagle file. It's a little bit closer as seen in beige's pic.

A friend sent me a pic...I don't know if I would call it a fail but it's certainly unexpected:

mega2560 pin spacing

That spacing on the Eagle .brd file for the MEGA2560 is 150 mils (0.15 inch) rather than 160 mils (0.16 inch) of the other Arduino boards and shields.

Regards,

Dave

Footnote:
The discrepency of 0.01 inch is equal to 0.254 mm.

beige

That's not so good...

Please, please fix it this time, and don't let the twice odd pin spacing become an Arduino Mega quirk/standard ;D

Huh.  The old mega has the same .15inch spacing as the Uno 2560 (both in the .BRD file and also on my real piece of hardware...)  (And no one has noticed till now?!)

donkahones

Must not be that be of an issue if no one has noticed.

whats .01 of an inch between friends?

NO! this is a perfect world there are no such things as mistakes!

And that still doesn't explain why you decided to make a epic fail blog post, that has whipped up a world of shit, before contacting anyone with your problem board

2 still haven't answered my question of whom, its important to protect the dealer who sold this item but not important enough to contact them first, right?

first though that popped in my head was sparkfun, then I get wind your yapping about it on sparkfun IRC...

hmm the yahoo's who photocopy google image's and datasheet schematics then slap copyright 20xx sparkfun on them?

who were (until recently) selling 50 cent multiplexers for 5$ + shipping and a china ripoff soldering irons for MORE than the real deal hakko's?

Breifly sold counterfit 328's cause they thought they were neat after being screwed on them?

Is currently sponsoring (the dumbest) robot contest where the goal is to complete a task and destroy itself (preferably made with overpriced sparkfun parts)?

And used to spam our message board with advertisements with no other involvement in this community what so ever! (btw see that @ssh0le under my avatar, that was given to me here on this forum when I called them on spamming us by a sparkfun representative)

Yea those half whit children are as reputable as a guy wearing a old sears suit selling snake oil tonic out of the back of his rusted out VW bus (no matter how pretty the red box it comes in is)

IMO of course
