Hi guys, I am new. Extremely new. But after awhile of browsing here and elsewhere on the internet I can't find an answer to my question so I figured I'd post here.
I'm on a Macbook pro, running 10.4.11. I just bought an Arduino Uno, and I can't seem to get the first steps out of the way. My problem seems to be with the serial port.
When I plug in the lights blink just fine. And I have downloaded and installed the right drivers (I believe. This is my only idea about what the problem is. Is the uno able to run on 10.4.11? maybe I have the wrong driver?), but when I run "ls /dev/cu.*" all I get in return is
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem /dev/cu.emoDAUE-1 /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
same thing with tty.* respectively
When I try to upload a program (blink) to my board, it says either serial port is in use, or if I use either of the PDA-sync ports, it says programmer not responding.
Also it's probably important to note that when I plug in I get no dialog box about a new network, and even when I go to my network settings, nothing new is there.
Can anyone guide me on what to do? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/MacOSXIf you're using an Arduino Uno or Mga 2560, you don't have any drivers to install. Skip ahead to the next step.

Avoid throwing electronics out as you or someone else might need them for parts or use. Solid state rectifiers are the only REAL rectifiers. Resistors for LEDS!

Really? I've had to install FTDI drivers for my Duel Mini Love, on Snow Leopard, otherwise how could it possibly communicate?

I am using windows but I would assume Mac would be the same. I think Windows, Mac and Linux all have built in FT232 drivers.

Well if a problem with the drivers is ruled out, what else could it be?
I suppose then, when following that guide, after skipping the step with the drivers, my first problem is that it never shows up as a network connection.

I'm having the same problem so I'll be interested to see if you find a way to fix this.
With me, the board is plugged in and the LED is blinking which I think it is doing automatically, but when I attempt to upload the basic Blink I get the same "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding"
Question, when you were on step 4 of connecting the board did you have the pop up dialogue box?
I might be wrong in assuming that maybe my mac is not recognising that there is a board plugged in and that the flashing is just the physical power going into it? Likewise, I am newer than new to this so I'm absolutely baffled!

The blink sketch is pre-installed with the bootloader.
